The COMPOSITION Integrated Information Management System under development for use in the manufacturing industry optimises the internal production processes by exploiting existing data, knowledge and tools to increase productivity and dynamically adapt to changing market requirements. An update on interoperability between data collection systems is reported in D5.8 Interoperability for M2M and HMI in Factory Environments II, intended to serve as a guide and a frame of reference. Key enabling technologies were investigated for inter- and intra-factory interoperability. The report examines the Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Machine-to-Machine Interface (M2M) within the factory environment and the underlying opportunities and risks. The challenges and value of information and communication technology with respect to inter-operability have been outlined. D5.8 can be downloaded from the COMPOSITION website here.
